During the process of axial coding, connections are made amongst the categories and the subcategories.
Basically, this involves putting data together in new ways by making connections between the categories.
This is achieved by exploring the:
which influence the phenomena and/or social processes that are being studied.
Here the focus is on determining more about each category in terms of:
the conditions that give rise to it;
the context in which it is embedded;
the strategies that people use to manage it or to carry it out;
the consequences of those strategies.
As additional data are collected, the researcher moves back and forth amongst the data collection, all the time open coding and axial coding and continually refining the categories and their interconnections.
